In my art, I use geometric shapes to explore the symbiotic relationship between matter and form, the individual and the collective. I am particularly interested in the sphere as nature’s metaphor for ultimate symmetry with its continuous, infinite, curving plane. As an artist, I keep returning to the correlation between tension and unity needed to create a single form. In the planning stages, I use drawings to organize, construct and disseminate the directional cadence of matter. I then employ the natural textures of wood to build a precise and interdependent liaison between various sections within a single shape. As a sculptor I search for elegance, simplicity, and the ever-elusive impact of perfection hidden in wood, which I then strive to transform into universal similes.
